How to Apply When Wet: Instructions for Moisturizing Right After Bathing

I had heard murmurings about moisturizing while skin was still wet/damp, but never really bought into it, to be honest. It wasn't until our youngest was struggling with excessive dry skin and I was trying any and everything to give my baby boy some relief that I decided to see if it really made a difference. I first tried it with a number of other moisturizers and noticed that there was a significant difference in the initial absorption, but the results weren't long-lasting. And that's where Apply When Wet Skincare gets it right; not only does our body butter provide deep penetration hydration when applied to wet/damp skin, but it is also long-lasting with a "barely there" feel.

"Some skin care products, such as moisturizers, work better when applied to damp skin as part of their function is to seal moisture in. When skin is already damp, it’s hydrated. The moisturizer can then either provide more hydration or just seal it in." - Dr. Dina Strachan (board certified dermatologist), Damp Skin: How It Works for Skin Care

So for those unfamiliar with applying moisturizers to wet skin, here's a couple of steps to help you along the way:

Tip #1 - Bathe according to your preference

As a busy working mom of three active boys, my mornings start early and my nights end late. I treasure my nightly shower and treat it as my personal retreat.

Tip #2 - Apply body butter when wet/damp

We often say apply when skin is wet/damp. Wet= straight from the bath/shower without drying. Damp= Light towel dry, skin is still moist. Here's my two cents about the two different application methods:

Tip #2a - Wet application

Of the two application methods, I actually prefer this one, especially at night before bed. Straight from the bath or shower, I apply our body butter on my whole body (face included) and then I love to air dry. Something about having a few extra moments to air dry after the wet application method does wonders for sealing in the moisture. But if you don't have the time and have to towel dry instead, I recommend applying the product a bit more liberally.

Tip #2b - Damp application

If I don't have time to air dry or I'm just in a rush, the damp application method is my go-to. Once I emerge from the bath/shower, I will lightly blot my body with a towel excluding my face (Based on my skin care regimen, I always use the wet application method for my face). Then I apply our body butter and by the time I'm finished, I'm fully dry and ready to get dressed.

Tip #3 - Enjoy!
